The Last 5 Years

Ken Godmere
Director

Ken Godmere has over 25 years of experience in live theatre, video, television, film and corporate communications. His performing, directing, managing and producing credits include: The Second City, Theatresports, and Stage Centre Productions in Toronto; Northstar Entertainment of Atlanta; THE iNSTiTUTiON, Odessa Films and The New RO television station in Ottawa. His performance credits range from Mozart in Amadeus to Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors.

Ken directed I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change last year for Zucchini Grotto, and received the Capital City Critics Circle award for Best Director (Professional).

Paul Legault
Musical Director

At the age of 20, Paul treaded the boards as a dancer in West Side Story (Orpheus Musical Theatre), then quickly exited stage left and stationed himself behind the piano for several productions since. Favourites include the jazzy City of Angels, the densely intricate Secret Garden (both with Orpheus), and the addictively entertaining Forever Plaid (Ottawa Little Theatre). Most recently, Paul led the band in the OLT's production of The Fantasticks. Already a proclaimed fan of Sondheim, Paul has now added Jason Robert Brown to his short list of esteemed composers/lyricists. Gratitude galore to Kris and Ken for this orchestral opportunity.

Pat Gauthier
Assistant Director

Pat Gauthier has a busy summer ahead of him. Besides working on The Last 5 Years, Pat has been working as Stage Manager for You Can’t Take it with You (Great Canadian Theatre Company), Director of Edward Albee's Listening (Gruppo Rubato) and Cha Cha Cha Blues (Full Moon Rising) and writer/producer/performer for Gruppo Rubato’s pygM@ILion. Pat’s past work includes directing Albee’s Counting the Ways and Brecht’s The Jewish Wife (University of Ottawa) as well as serving as Assistant Director on SubUrbia (U of O), and stage managing a handful of shows in Ottawa, including The Doll House, Feelgood, It’s All True (all at GCTC) and Zeus and the Pamplemousse (Opera Lyra). Upcoming projects include: Gruppo Rubato’s 2004 pygM@ILion tour, a return to Albee as Assistant Director on GCTC’s production of The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia, Assistant Director on The Last Liberal (also at GCTC) and a nap.

Kevin Waghorn
Stage Manager

Kevin has been active in the Ottawa theatre community for nearly ten years, beginning his journey as Stage Manager with Sock ‘n’ Buskin's Chess and most recently having stage managed Third Wall Theatre’s production of Miss Julie. In between, Kevin has stage managed several shows in town, including; Jesus Christ Superstar (Sock 'n' Buskin), Mother Courage (Third Wall), Listening (Gruppo Rubato) and during the past Fringe Festival oversaw the stage management of three productions involving 19 shows in 9 days. After completing this, his first show with Zucchini Grotto, Kevin will be busy stage managing for A Company of Fools in their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Bio coming soon!

John Solman
Lighting Designer

John is a veteran of the Ottawa Community Theatre scene, having been lighting designer for more than 50 shows over the last 20-plus years, with occasional detours into stage managing, set designing and technical directing. His experience has ranged from over 30 large-scale musical shows with the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society, the Savoy Society of Ottawa, and Theatreworks, through almost 20 shows at the Ottawa Little Theatre to smaller cabarets and similar shows in a variety of venues. Recent credits include Johnny Belinda and Grease! with Orpheus, The Mikado and The Sorcerer with Savoy, and Visiting Mr. Green and Here on the Flight Path with Ottawa Little Theatre.

Sean Speer
Master Carpenter

Since Sean picked up his first tool and took apart his first toy, he knew he was destined to break things. This new love of his life came with a catch; most people don’t like it when you break what they build. This lead Sean to learn to build things, and ultimately destroy them. Theatre seems to be the perfect place for Sean, he builds a set, the cast puts on a show, then Sean get to break the set. Bring on closing night.

Minna Koch
Scenic Artist

Minna has been involved in theatre for twelve years, primarily with the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society. This is her second endeavour in the world of professional theatre, having helped with the sets for Zucchini Grotto's production of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! last summer. Though she can often be seen on stage in Orpheus shows, she has always maintained her backstage roots and loves to work there whenever possible.

This is her second opportunity to be scenic artist for a show, and she is extremely grateful to her Zucchini family for allowing her to pursue her love for painting with their set.

Jennifer Scrivens
Scenic Photographer

Normally seen on stage, Jennifer jumped at the opportunity to practice her skills with her camera and help out behind the scenes with The Last 5 Years. Jen and her camera have traveled across the world in the last five years, snapping up (in her opinion) prize photos of Australia, Barbados, and Italy. While in Italy, she tried her hand at covert ops, dodging security guards in the Sistine Chapel to take two pictures of Michaelangelo's ceiling. This was skilfully accomplished by operating her camera from the confines of her backpack.

Kris Joseph
Producer

The Last 5 Years is about two things: sharing an incredible story with an audience, and creating work for local professionals. Opportunities for professional musical theatre are few and far between in Ottawa; as a sometimes performer, Kris would rather do something about this discrepancy, rather than sit back and complain. In the end, we all win.
